Programs

The Vision we have of curriculum in our work is strongly influenced by the children in the centre and based on the children’s interests and abilities. We provide a program that is not limited to a scheduled routine—this will allow for children to develop meaningful play that will not be interrupted. The program is designed to help the child solve problems, question and experiment, and hypothesize, while the teachers support all areas of learning.  We provide open-ended and natural materials that are designed for collaborative work. We display documentation of children’s work and play which will invite children to revisit their work, and will potentially lead into a desired curriculum based off their interests and needs.

Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child's soul.”

Friedrich Froebel

Preschool Curriculum

Contains Phonic, Music, Story time, Art, Science, Math, Writing, and an introduction to French language. We understand that each child might not be ready developmentally for each subject, however we will provide adequate activities depending on their individual level. This program is designed to prepare children for Kindergarten.

Mindful Yoga Program

Every morning children will be led by an educator in yoga. This is a time for children to move, stretch and become mindful of their breath. Children of all ages can benefit from mindfulness, the simple practice of bringing a gentle, accepting attitude to the present moment. Many benefits including a healthier body, development of relaxation skills, self-awareness and self-esteem, increased imagination and empathy, and improved self-discipline.

Music and Movement Program

Children naturally enjoy music and will begin reacting to music at an early age. We provide time to sing dance and teach through music. We have instruments for each child to allow for them to participate. When children take part in music and movement activities, they are allowed to have fun, be creative and dance around and burn off some energy. When children participate in music and movement activities in a group, they also develop and refine their social skills. They learn to work as a team, they learn to share and they learn how to be creative in a group environment. Other benefits include, developing motor skills, learning to express emotion and improving balance and coordination.

Adopt A Street Program

This program is meant to increase community awareness and participation in litter control. The mission is to maintain a sustainable and beautiful City by encouraging everyone to take an active role. The program is a cooperative effort between the City of Coquitlam and its citizens and groups who want to achieve a litter-free environment and improve the appearance of the City. The educators will be leading by example, they will be teaching children how to reduce, reuse and recycle. There will be projects in the class where we work in the garden and learn what foods can be compost. Also, about why it is important to clean and protect our environment.
